Bring in the Itch!

I've been talking to the guys this week, and it seems the theme of
complaints has really focused around the itching of our newly grown
facial hair. I personally, and much to the chagrin of beard purists
everywhere, have shaved some of the neck hair down. This was mostly
due to an impromptu wedding invitation but I'm now begining to realize
the comfort I've afforded myself. So, if anyone has any good remedies
for facial hair itch or discomfort, please feel free to chime in on
our contestants comments page, or the jeers page itself.
On a more positive note, I've received a few compliments this week
about my beard, and also been harassed by my boss about the "red rat
growing" on my face. 2-1, not bad! I haven't had any facial hair for
8+ years, so its an interesting experiment to watch it all grow in
again. Well, thats it for this week. We'll be back in next week,
hopefully with lots of fun stories from the holidays and friends and
family members comments!

Week 1

It's update time! A few site updates to remind you about. New
contestant pages with week by week pictures will be available tonight.
We'll also have an email newsletter page to join, and hopefully a FAQ
for beard related questions going up sometime next week. So tell your
friends!

Now,after our first 10 contestants we were not allowing any additional
contestants. However, a good friend of ours emailed me early this
week at about 4:30 am. Her husband Eric, had apparently shaved his
beard of 8+ years to be in the contest that morning, and if that
weren't enough, he refused to shave this beard for his wedding two
years ago, but decided to shave it for the contest. If that's not
devotion I don't know what is. So after conferring with my fellow
bearded associates, we've decided to let him in as a special guest,
or, wild card, if you will. Also, we've decided to do a little
tribute via the picture below. It was a fairly young beard, only 8
years old, but it gave its fuzzy little life so that the beard contest
would be that much more meaningful. R.I.P. Eric's beard, your death
is not in vane!

Welcome to The Beard Contest!

If you're not familiar with our little concept, please check out the rules page listed above. Normally this will be a spot for a summary of the week we've just had, stories and complaints from the contestants etc. Basically a week in review. Please bare with us as we adapt and tweek this site. We're open to suggestions, ideas and general bitching and moaning, just follow the "Jeer" link at the top.
